Week 1 Tuesday-Thursday 3-5 September
This week is going to be a short week. We will be focusing on introducing your child to his new class environment, getting acquainted with his/her colleagues and teachers. in addition to being used to the class rules and routine Academically we will have a quick review concerning numbers and letters in the sense of recognition, formation and counting.
Language Arts: Jolly Phonics set 1. Letter Ss, recognition, letter sound, proper letter formation (capital and small), vocabulary. First sight words (the kids’ names). Math: Go Math, chapter 1. Represent, model, count and write numbers 1-2. Model and count 3 and 4. Vocabulary: one, two, three, four, match. Science: Healthy eating. Social Studies: Back to school. School rules and regulations. N.B:Homework is given on Thursday in Journal copybook and is expected by maximum Monday.(NO Homework on the First Week, Math's Homework is by second week. Library Books starting with AA level. Kindly note that the books are pictures only then it's upgraded to higher levels with words. Its' given on Tuesday expected Thursday !
Week 2 Sunday-Thursday 9-13 September (Tuesday Off)
Language Arts: Jolly Phonics set 1. Letter Ss review. Letters Aa, Tt recognition, letter sound, proper letter formation (capital and small), vocabulary. First sight words (the kids’ names). Math: Go Math, chapter 1. Represent, model, count and write numbers 3-5. Vocabulary: three, four, five, match. Homework: Go Math, chapter1, p.47-48, color. Science:Healthy Eating. Food groups. We will discuss the ways to keep our body healthy. "Our Bodies" theme- we will talk about brain and its functions. The Knowledge Book will be sent home, kindly review your child's classwork. Homework Project: Fill the shopping cart with the healthy food choices. N.B:Library Books on Thursday this week only because Tuesday is off!
Week 3 Sunday-Thursday 16-20 September.:
Language Arts: Jolly Phonics set 1. Revision of sounds s, a, t. Letters Ii, Pp, Nn, recognition, letter sound, proper letter formation (capital and small), vocabulary. Blending initial sounds with word families: at/it, an/in. at: at, sat, pat; it: it, sit, pit; an: pan, tan; in: in, sin, tin, pin; Sight words: I,am. Math: Go Math book. Ways to make 5. Count and order to 5. Understand 0. Identify and write 0. Vocabulary: pairs, and, one, two, three, four, five, larger, fewer, zero, more. This week the kids will take the review test for chapter 1 and the sheets will be sent home. Kindly revise them with your child and don’t send back, keep at home. Homework: Go Math, chapter1, p.58-59, color. Science:Healthy eating, ways to keep our body healthy. Food groups. "Our Bodies" theme - lungs and their functions. Social Studies:Bullying, types of bullying, its impact on person, and the ways to deal with bullying.
Week 4 Sunday-Thursday 23-27 September:
Language Arts: Jolly Phonics set 2. Letters c/k, e, h, recognition, letter sound, proper letter formation (capital and small), vocabulary. Blending initial sounds with word families: -ap/-ip + revision -at/-it, -an/-in. –ap: sap, cap, nap, tap -ip: sip, kip, tip, pip, hip Thursday, September 27 is the due date for September sight words (I,am) dictation. Because there are only 2 sight words the dictation will also include the sounds from Jolly Phonics set 1: s, a, t, p, i, n and some CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words from word families: -ap/-ip. Homework in the Journal: Words cap, sat, hat -write 3 times, draw pictures with the beginning sounds c, s, h. Go Math book. Chapter 2.Compare numbers to 5. Matching and counting to compare sets with the same number of objects. Greater than. Less than. Vocabulary: same number, compare, match, greater/more, less/fewer. Homework: Go Math, chapter2, p.85-86, color. Science:Healthy eating. Food groups, importance of eating from each food group. Sorting foods into 5 food groups. "Our Bodies" theme – heart and its functions. Social Studies: We will continue talking about Bullying, types of bullying, its impact on person, and the ways to deal with bullying.
Week 5 Sunday-Thursday 30-4th of October:
Language Arts: Jolly Phonics set 2. Letters r, m, d + revision ck, e, h; recognition, letter sound, proper letter formation (capital and small), vocabulary. Blending initial sounds with word families: -et, -en + revision -at/-it,-an/-in,-ap/-ip. -et: met, set, pet, net, ret (for retired); -en: den, men, ten, hen, pen. At the end of this week we will have dictation for the sounds from Jolly Phonics set 2: ck, e, h, r, m, d. Dictation will also include some of the CVC (consonant/vowel/consonant) words from word families: -et, -en. Sight words of October: me, we, be, he, she, the, a, is, are. Sight words for this week: me, we, be he, she. Kindly let kids practice recognizing and then writing the sight words following proper ways of letter and word formation at home. Homework in the Journal: Words: rip, mat, pet, hen -write 3 times, draw pictures to represent words, color. Dictation copybooks should be returned with the homework file. Math: Go Math. Chapter 2. Compare by matching/counting sets to 5. Vocabulary: same number, compare, match, greater/more, less/fewer, one, two, three, four, five. Homework: Go Math, chapter2, p.109-110, color. This week the kids will take the review test for chapter 2 and the sheets will be sent home. Science: We will revise everything that we learned about food groups. "Our Bodies" theme – stomach and its functions. Social Studies:Accepting others, identifying ways people might be similar and different from each other.
